The Audi quattro has played an important role in the transfer of four-wheel drive vehicles from the exclusive domain of heavy off-road vehicles. He was one of the stars of the 1980 Geneva International Motor Show; While the exterior was similar to the Audi Coupé, its flared fenders and spoilers front and rear strongly indicated its high performance, but its permanent four-wheel drive was obviously the main point of conversation. The front and rear differentials were combined by a central differential in a configuration that met many requirements: smooth driving on the road; excellent speed and cornering; and exceptional stability. Power was provided by a 2144cc in-line five-cylinder engine with turbocharger and intercooler that produced an impressive 200 hp, while the front and rear had MacPherson strut suspension and disc brakes, which were a ventilated structure at the front. In 1981, the rally version of the car debuted, which took the world circuit by storm, winning many races and opening the door to other 4WD rally cars. Its influence was also felt in the road car arena, and although the car itself remains a timeless classic, the name "quattro" is still used by Audi to refer to four-wheel drive.
