The VIPOW 6 V / 7 Ah gel battery has become an alternative to traditional lead-acid batteries. Unlike the latter, gel models are maintenance-free batteries. This means that they do not require electrolyte replenishment. What speaks for them is the sealed housing and the electrolyte in gel form. This guarantees that it will not leak, allowing the battery to be stored in any position and making it more resistant to shocks. One of the biggest advantages of the gel battery is its lifespan. Among those available on the market, this type is characterized by the longest life, as it can function even for more than a decade when used properly. Importantly, gel batteries also exhibit greater resistance to changing and extreme weather conditions. Automatic self-discharge (25°C) allows gel batteries to be stored for many months without the need for recharging. Their capacity drops to: - 91% after 3 months - 82% after 6 months - 64% after 9 months. Choosing a gel battery is not only about size. When selecting a battery, attention must be paid to its capacity— it should not exceed 110% or be less than 90% of the recommended capacity for the device you plan to power. Also important is the output voltage, which must also be very close to the recommended value (+/-0.2 V). Gel batteries are used in motorcycles, golf carts, and lawn mowers. They are also utilized in uninterruptible power supplies, photovoltaic installations, alarm systems, or electric toys. Moreover, these batteries can be found in vehicles with a large amount of electrical devices, e.g., campers. They are then used not for starting the vehicle but for powering electronic equipment. For the charger to function properly and not damage the battery, it must be correctly set for current and voltage. These values will differ at various charging stages, so it is worth choosing an automatic charger that not only adjusts the appropriate current and voltage but also turns off when the battery is fully charged.
