The British service name "Stuart" comes from the Confederate general from the American Civil War, JEB Stuart. The Stuarts were first used in combat during the North African campaign. About 170 examples were used by British forces during Operation Crusader (18 November - 30 December 1941). For lack of a worthy opponent, the Stuart tanks also found their way into the Pacific War Zone!
