The Leonid Teliga Yacht Shipyard in Szczecin, undertaking the construction of the yacht "Polonez", guaranteed a very short construction time (about 6 months).
Such a short period of yacht construction gave the Polish team additional time to prepare the yacht and the yacht captain Krzysztof Baranowski, the representative of Poland for the 4th Transatlantic Singlehanded Race. Due to the haste, it was decided to base the construction of the "Polonez" on the documentation of the yacht "Arcturus" with a sail area of 80 m2. During the design work, a completely new aft part of the hull was developed and the equipment and interior were thoroughly redesigned, adapting the yacht to the requirements of sailing with a one-man crew. The start in the 4th Regatta turned out to be very successful for Captain Krzysztof Baranowski and "Polonez", as he took 12th place in a group of over fifty participants. The Polonez was recognized by sailing experts as the most elegant yacht of the 1972 regatta. Krzysztof Baranowski was not satisfied with participating in the Single-Handed Regatta and decided to sail around the world on the most difficult route for yachts, i.e. the zone of forty degrees south latitude - i.e. the zone of "roaring forties". During this cruise, the "Polonez" sailed around the Capes of Good Hope, Leeuwin in Tasmania and Horn. This feat placed Captain Baranowski in the ranks of well-known loners. The very good condition of the yacht, which we could see at Plac Defilad in Warsaw, was a good testimony for its constructors and builders.
